Dorothy Brown, 94, of Atwood, died Thursday, April 25, 2024. She was born May 30, 1929, in Rawlins County, KS, to Fred and Mary (Lilly) Allen. Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne H. Brown on August 20, 1946, and they made their home in Atwood. Dorothy loved being a part of Atwood, and said it was “truly a place where people care.” For 32 years, she worked as the school lunch program director. She was a member of the Atwood United Methodist Church, where she shared her love of singing as a member of the church choir.
In her free time, she enjoyed taking walks and baths, keeping house, tea parties with her expansive teacup collection. Trips to Colorado were treasured but there was no place like home. Dorothy could often be found with a smile on her face. She truly treasured “My Wayne, Reno, Larry, our Doll Girls, wonderful neighbors and friends.”
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband Wayne and son Reno.
She is survived by her son Larry and wife Joyce Brown of Colby; grandchildren, Laura (Scott) Franssen, Arianne (Josh) Kraft, Georgia Brown, Lacy (Keith) Brown, Tess (Alec) Hamilton and Kelcia Kugler; great grandchildren, Jadyn (Bryson) Kool, lan Reynolds, Jade Brown, Keenan Brown, Dominic Ackerman, Marcus Ackerman and Nevaeh Brown.
A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the United Methodist Church, Atwood.
