The couple made their home in Imperial, where their five children were born. There Doris served on the Alter Guild and was a member of the Ladies Aide. In 1960 they made the move to St. Francis, KS and later moved to Ellis. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis and later Trinity Lutheran Church in Colby. Doris’ love for children had her babysitting for many families during her lifetime, both in St. Francis and Ellis.
