Doris Finley

Doris Estella Finley passed away Thursday July 25, 2024, at the age of 95. Doris was born on February 23, 1929, in Amoret, Missouri to Charles and Estella (Niswonger) Luedke. She had one sister and eight brothers, one of which was her twin.

When Doris was 21, she met Jack (John D) Finley while visiting relatives in Atwood. After a three-month long-distance letter writing courtship they married on December 25, 1950. They spent the remainder of their lives in Atwood raising five sons, Stephen, Larry, Doug, Kevin and Brad.

Doris enjoyed being involved in the Atwood community. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Town and Country, Atwood Ladies Golf and the Hobby Club. She thoroughly enjoyed assisting students with reading skills at Atwood Elementary School. Doris also had a special talent with crafts and all sewing projects. Many friends and family members were the lucky recipients of these items. In addition to her many activities, Doris (and Jack) could be found at Atwood Country Club golfing with family and friends. She took great joy in beating her husband and sons in golf! Whether on the golf course, attending the boy's school activities or just grocery shopping, Doris was always impeccably dressed, often in her custom sewn outfits and beautiful accessories.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack; sons, Stephen, Larry, Doug and Kevin. She is survived by her son Brad (Laurie), daughters-in-law, Donna (Doug) and Karin (Kevin) Finley, Anita Schnee (Stephen); grandsons, Jeff, Jarett, Jason, Christopher and Cole Finley; granddaughters, Cammy and Candice Finley; great grandchildren, Bodie Finley, Kash and Kora Finley; sisters-in-law; Delores and Phyllis Luedke.

Services will be held on Saturday Aug 17, 2024 at 11:30 a.m., at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Atwood City Library and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
