Dennis R. Buford, 80, died Nov. 24, 2019 at Parker Hospital in Parker, Colo. Tracy, Vicki and Tyler were at his side. Dennis was born Dec. 2, 1938 to Orville and Elvina Frick Buford in Marion, Kan. He grew up in Colby, Kan. Dennis and Mardell Kogl were married Aug. 25, 1962. They were blessed with three sons, Trevor Lee, Tracy Lynn and Tyler Lane.
Dennis worked at Wagoner and Sons in Colby for years. He moved to Atwood where he purchased the Phillips 66 station, later adding Snap On tools to his business. In 1983, he began as the bus maintenance supervisor at Atwood High School and retired in 2003, but he kept busy with his shop on Vine Street.
Dennis helped organize the Early Rod Run in 1982. He had restored his white 1956 Ford pick-up and the thought was to have a show in Northwest Kansas. His friendship with the Wagoners, Charles, Paul, Dave and his son, Brad and daughter, Kim and her husband, Josh Swartz, grew through their years together with the Rod Run. They were very special friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Trevor Lee; his parents; his sister, Janice Gillespie; brothers, Leroy “Bud”, Glenn and John Buford; and friend, Alan “Vic” Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Mardell; sons, Tracy and wife, Vicki, and Tyler and wife, Jenn; grandchildren, Trevor John, Carly Rosalie and Trey Landry; and sister, Sharon and husband, Lloyd Rogers.
Cremation was chosen. There will be a Rosary at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 27 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. Following a family burial, there will be a Celebration of Life from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.., Saturday, Dec. 28 at the Sacred Heart Church basement, Atwood.
