Dennis Everett Applegate

Dennis Everett Applegate, 81, of Colby, KS, passed away on November 2, 2024, in Colby. Born on November 18, 1942, in Norton, KS, Dennis was a cherished member of his community and a long-time employee at Hi-Plains COOP, where he dedicated close to 45 years of service.

Known for his friendly, helpful, and organized nature, Dennis enjoyed a life filled with various hobbies. He was passionate about fishing, hunting, motorcycling, and was always eager to lend a hand at the local senior center. Most of all, Dennis loved spending quality time with his family and friends, creating memories that they will hold dear.

Dennis is survived by his loving children, DeLana K. Applegate and Daniel E. Applegate (Raina); sisters, Diane (Tim) Schur, Dana (Doug) Beauchamp, and Darlene (Jerry) Schippers; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Delpha Applegate; his wife, Jeanette Applegate; and his beloved dog, Elly May.

A service to celebrate Dennis’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dennis can be made to the Nebraska Boston Terrier/ French Bulldog Rescue or York Adopt-A-Pet, organizations that reflect his love for animals, and may be sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.

Dennis’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and community involvement will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew him.
