Debra Campbell, 66, of Oakley, died Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, surrounded by her husband and sons. She was born December 26, 1956, in Oakley, KS, to Lyle and Madelyn (McGinty) Winterscheidt. She graduated from Oakley High School in 1974. On January 7th, 1978, she married Bruce Campbell, her high school sweetheart. Debra graduated with her bachelor’s degree in education from Saint Mary of the Plains College in 1988. She was an elementary school teacher at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Oakley, for 19 years and continued to substitute teach for 10 years.
Debra was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Darlene Colglazier and Norma Burrows and brother, Larry Winterscheidt.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce, of Oakley; sons, Dylan Campbell of Oakley, KS, Cole (Trey) Campbell of Kansas City, MO, and Jace Campbell of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren Cana, Sam, and Ivy and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She will be remembered for her quiet strength and sense of humor. She loved her family, particularly her grandchildren, profoundly. She will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, with burial in the church cemetery.
