David Wessel

David "Dave" Henry Wessel, 88, of Oakley, Kansas passed away Thursday morning, February 16, 2023, at Logan County Senior Living, Oakley, Kansas.

Dave was born on January 6, 1935, in Thomas County, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Mary "Mayme" (Mindrup) Wessel. On August 23, 1969, Dave married Catherine "Kay" Glassman in Oakley, Kansas, this union was blessed with two children, Lance and Mark. In his youth, Dave worked on the family farm and as a hired hand for farmers. He then worked for the City of Oakley in the Electric Department, as a mechanic for 40 years, most notably at Mel's Motors, and later as custodian and maintenance at USD 274. He enjoyed his retirement by having several part times jobs. Dave was always working on or fixing something, and most of all, he enjoyed his friends, family, and grandson Silas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 42 years; Catherine "Kay" (Glassman) Wessel; parents, Joseph and Mary "Mayme" (Mindrup) Wessel; siblings, Ambrose, Helen Nuessen, Francis “Frank,” Bob, Mary Ann Seymore, Leroy, Charles, Tom, and Leo Vincent (infancy).

He is survived by his two sons, Lance Wessel (Amanda) and Mark Wessel of Oakley, Kansas; his grandson Silas Wessel; two sisters, Sister Bernadine Wessel, ASC of Wichita, Kansas and Rita Wessel of Hays, Kansas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley, Kansas. Funeral Mass is at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2023, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oakley, burial to follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Oakley.
