Darrel Fikan

Darrel Herman Fikan, 78, of Colby, died Saturday, November 23, 2013. He was born December 26, 1934 at the Alex Harris Maternity Home in Colby to Fredrick and Mary (Barratt) Fikan. He grew up on a farm south of Atwood and attended a one room Country School until High School. In 1953 he Graduated from Atwood Community High School and then went on to serve in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He married Bertha Ankle December 28, 1957 and they had a son, John, who was born April 16, 1959. Darrel was a dedicated farmer and was a member of the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers, CO-OP board, Colby American Legion and Odd Fellows # 338, Atwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, John Fikan.

He is survived by his wife Bertha; step-children, Robert (Karen) Harrington, Ft. Collins, CO, Roberta (Al) Castanda, Gilbert, AZ; nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Cremation was chosen and his ashes will be scattered over his land.
