Cleta Mae Herren was born April 5, 1936, to Joseph and Clara (Mazanek) Vacura. She passed away April 13, 2023, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby, KS, at the age of 87 years and 8 days.
She attended the local country school, District No. 33 Jackson, in Jennings Township. Cleta attended Jennings Rural High School and graduated from Decatur Community High School, Oberlin, in 1953.
On August 26, 1956, Cleta married Claude Herren at the Jennings Methodist Church. They made their home on the Herren family farm south of Colby, with their son, Roger.
Cleta was a long-time member of the Colby Royal Neighbors and Rebecca Lodges and a member of the First Christian Church of Colby. She enjoyed being a farm wife, homemaker, gardener, mother, and grandmother. Cleta also loved spending time with family, friends and neighbors and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Cleta was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of nearly 56 years.
Survivors include her son, Roger Herren, of Colby, KS; grandson, Gavin Herren, of Goodland, KS; brother Dean (Dorothy) Vacura, of Jennings, KS; three nephews, Bill (Amy) Vacura, Norton, KS, Brad (Jody) Vacura, Point of Rocks, MD and Blake (Crystal) Vacura, Omaha, NE; four great nephews; four great nieces and her caretaker Terry Knowles.
Visitation is 4-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. The Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the mortuary, with burial in Beulah Cemetery, Colby. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Citizens Medical Center or the American Legion and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
