Clem A.J. Zerr, 92, of Oakley, died Tuesday, Jan 7, 2014 at Logan County Hospital. He was born Oct 5, 1921 to Joseph and Agatha (Heier) Zerr in Sheridan County on the family farm. He served our country in the United States Army in WWII from 1942 – 1946 spending most his time in the Aleutian Islands. He married Pauline Pfeifer on May 20, 1947 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Peter, KS. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage together. He and Pauline farmed and raised cattle on the farm south of Grinnell until retirement in April of 2009 when they moved to Oakley. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Grinnell V.F.W, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He was an enthusiastic horseshoe pitcher winning many trophies throughout western Kansas and eastern Colorado. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Duane John and David Zerr; grandson, Marvin Miller and three brothers, Ted, Kasper and Melchoir Zerr.
He is survived by his wife Pauline; eight children, Donald Zerr, of Grinnell, Geraldine Zerr, of Hays, Marietta (Tom) Plummer, of Oakley, Ruth (Donnie) Miller, of Dighton, Ella Dankenbring, of Marysville, Leroy Zerr, of Grinnell, Duane (Sandy) Zerr, of Pittsburg and Elaine (Dale) Jones, of Council Grove; siblings, Margaret (Ben) Richmeier, of Thorton, CO, Helen (Gene) Normandin, of Damar, Steve (Louella) Zerr, of Hoxie and Katherine Delzeit, of Oakley; fifteen grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2 -7pm on Friday, Jan 10, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. Vigil service will be at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am on Saturday, Jan 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley with burial following at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Grinnell.
