Charles Robert Walker was born September 27, 1939 to Doren Dale Walker and Verda Veanna (VanVleet) Walker on the three generation family farm southwest of Atwood where he resided most of his life. He joined our Lord, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, April, 22, 2014.
On April 13, 1958, Charles married Wilda June Eaton. To this union, three daughters were born, Rebecca, Lisa, and Stacey. Charles was a farmer and rancher, and served his community as a school board member and Rawlins County Commissioner. His pride in his alma mater, combined with his daughters’ participation in athletics, led Charles to become a staple at high school athletic events. Even after the girls had left AHS, Charles and Wilda followed local sports teams and their athletes. His pride in his children and grandchildren was regularly shared over cups of coffee with his beloved community members, and one would also hear spirited debates over a wide variety of topics, which Charles loved.
Always a lover of horses, Charles raised and showed Appaloosa and Quarter horses. Most recently, he bought and raised competitive cutting horses, traveling across the country proudly watching them compete and win. In the cutting horse business, he developed many close friendships, which he maintained and valued to the end.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn (Walker) McCormack. He is survived by his wife, Wilda; his daughters and their families, Rebecca Morrisey and Shawn Morrisey, children Adam and wife Bethany, Christopher and wife Colleen, and Erin; Lisa and Steve Shepard, children Makenzie and Cole; Stacey and Chester Cole, children Alexis and Chase; along with five great grand-children, Lillian, Addison, Reghan, Avery, and Vincent; sister-in-law and husband, Mary and Wes Bruce; nephews and niece, Dwight, Dwayne, and Daniel McCormack, DayLene (McCormack) Forseth, Brian and Robert Bruce; cousins Kathy (Walker) Halapeska, and Marc and Sylvia Walker, Janice (Walker) and Jeff Berman, as well as many other friends and family.
