Charles Edwin “Bud” Mumm, 89, of Atwood, died Sunday, November 1, 2020, at his home. He was born October 21, 1931, at the family farm near Selden, KS, to Gottfried and Sarah (McDonald) Mumm. Bud served in the United States Army, stationed in Heilbronn, Germany from 1954-55 and was a longtime member of the Herndon VFW. On October 20, 1979 he married Victoria “Vicky” Marintzer and they enjoyed 41 years together. He farmed and ranched with his four brothers on the homeplace near Selden and on a creek farm near Achilles, where he lived for sixty-two years. In his spare time, Bud enjoyed reading and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Herndon and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Joseph Michael Mumm; brothers, Gottfried Bernard, Paul, Frederick “Fritz” and Hubert Mumm; sisters, Juliann Mumm, Anogene Rogers, Josephine Douglass, Eleanor Rogers, Alberta Ritter and Clara (Dick) Newton; nieces Alicia Hull and Mary Jane Smith.
He is survived by his wife Vicky Mumm, of Atwood; children, Greg Mumm, of Ludell, Anita Mumm, of Salida, CO; siblings, Margaret “Marge” Roy, Dolores Raile, Clement (Patricia) Mumm, Joan “Judy” (Gordon) Smith and Kenneth Mumm and many nieces and nephews.
For purposes of social distancing, a funeral Mass for close friends and family will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 5, 2020, at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church, in Herndon, KS, with visitation taking place from 9-10:00 a.m. and rosary at 10:00. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
