Charles Robert Goetz, 79, of Grinnell, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Independent Living Apartments at Logan County Hospital. He was born in Park, KS on August 26, 1934 to the late Helen N. (Gallagher) Brungardt and Edmond Cecile Goetz. On August 4, 1956 he married Frances Lynch in Logan, KS and made their home in Grinnell. He began his career in Grinnell in 1954 at the Co-op elevator, feed mill and then the lumberyard. He continued his employment with the Co-op by beginning to sell furniture and that business grew into a department of its own. The Co-op purchased and remodeled a building on Main Street of Grinnell and named it the Co-Ag Furniture Store. Charlie retired from the furniture store with a loving title of “Charlie Co-op!” He was also an honorary life member of the Angelus Knights of Columbus Council.
Preceded in death by sisters, Helen Maxine Leiker and Marlene Fahey and brother, George Edmond “Bud” Goetz.
Survivors include his wife, Frances; son, Greg (Mary Jane) Goetz, of Grinnell; daughters, Annette (Bob) Ostmeyer, of Ozawkie, Heliana (Tom) Halbleib, of Oakley and Cecilia (Mike) Brungardt, of Oakley; Brothers, Bill Goetz, of Oakley, Virgil “Jim” Goetz and Gary Goetz, both of WaKeeney; sisters, Delores Deines, Elsie Bittel, both of Wakeeney and Patsy Radcliffe, of Kenton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Valerie Krier, Nicole Stejskal, Christopher Halbleib, Nathan Goetz, Katrina Kountzman, Robert C. Ostmeyer, Cole Halbleib, Darren Goetz and Eric Goetz and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4-8pm on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley with vigil service at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00am, Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Grinnell.
