Charles Berend

Charles Joseph Berend, 80, of Colby, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014. He was born July 11, 1933 to Charles and Helen (Fox) Berend in Rural Ford County. He served in the United States Army. He married Pauline Bailey on Jan 19, 1980. He worked for and retired from the City of Hutchinson as the Electrical and Building Inspector from 1980 to 1995. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 661, Knights of Columbus and Elks Lodge all of Hutchinson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Romeo and Clarence.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; two step sons, Paul (Marilyn) Bailey, of Colby and David (Barbara Dian) Bailey, of Hutchinson; a brother, Vince (Ann) Berend, of Grant, NM; five sisters, Jane McKenzie, of Salina, Josephine Harding, of Salina, Lou (Carl) Reekie, of Mulvane, Freda (Don) McCallion, of Elkhart and Eilene Muehlbauer, of Ocala, FL; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-7pm on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby with a vigil service at 6:30pm. Funeral Mass will be 9:30am on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby. Burial will follow at 4:00pm in Penwell- Gabel Cemetery, Hutchinson.
