Carole Jean Luedders

Carole Jean (Moore) Luedders, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, just three days shy of her 86th birthday. She was born on December 14, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, to David and Elsie (Bloch) Moore, and was the oldest of five children.

Carole spent her early childhood in Ohio, where her family operated a vegetable farm. In her teenage years, the Moore family relocated to Tucson, Arizona. It was there, while attending nursing school, that Carole met her future husband, LeRoy, at a church youth event. They were married on January 24, 1959, and were blessed with two daughters, Karen, and Cheryl.

In her early career, Carole worked as an administrative secretary, but in 1974, after moving to Atwood, Kansas, she transitioned into accounting, where she worked at Luedders Accounting Service and served as the Atwood Housing Authority Director until her retirement.

Carole was an avid reader, especially enjoying mystery novels, and had a deep love for music, joyously participating in the choir at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was also an active member of her community, volunteering as an AARP VITA Tax Preparer, serving as a Republican Committee woman, and participating on the Western Plains Arts Council. Through her social clubs and church activities, Carole made many lifelong friends.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents, David and Elsie Moore; her sister Susan Moore; and her brother, David Moore Jr. She is survived by her devoted husband, LeRoy; her two daughters, Karen Fikan of Atwood, and Cheryl McConnell of Philadelphia; her sisters, Hope (Duane) Wallace of Casa Grande, AZ, and Patricia Van Kirk of San Carlos, Mexico and sister-in-law Alice Moore of Omaha, NE. Carole is also survived by two grandchildren, Jason Fikan of Atwood, and Elisabeth McConnell of Santa Barbara, CA, and three great-grandsons: Mason, Jackson, and Tate.

Carole will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family, friends, and community. Her love for life and her positive impact on those around her will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Atwood Public Library or the Alzheimer’s Association, sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
