Carla Jeanne Struckhoff, 90, of Grinnell, died Saturday, March 23, 2024. She was born on July 27, 1933, in Hays, Kansas to John and Helene Baalman. She was the first born of four children. Jeanne graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic Academy in Wichita, Kansas.
On April 24, 1956, she married Raymond F. Struckhoff at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Angelus, Kansas. In 1957, Ray and Jeanne moved to the farm north of Grinnell. They lived there for 44 years. Jeanne loved life on the farm. Faith was the center of their lives, being active members of Saint Paul’s Catholic Church. They moved to Grinnell in 2001.
Jeanne was an organist at both St. Paul’s Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grinnell. Her love of music started when she learned piano from the nuns in grade school. She played the piano and organ for most of her life, accompanying numerous events.
Jeanne served as a member of the Daughters of Isabella, VFW Auxiliary and was also an active member at the Grinnell Senior Citizen Center. One of her favorite hobbies was playing cards with her dear friends. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and golfing. Her love for sports was evident as she supported the Grinnell Warriors of the old days and the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks.
Ray and Jeanne had six children: Maria Zimmerman (David), Jacque Stedman (Scott), Christine Roberts (Kurt), Karen Kuhlman (Ken), Shauna Churchman (Tim) and Robert Struckhoff; 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helene Baalman; her husband, Ray Struckhoff; and her brother, Maurice Baalman. She is survived by all of her children and two siblings: Murray Baalman (Millie) and Paulette Ostmeyer (Dave).
Visitation is from 12:30 p.m.- 2:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 1:30 p.m. and Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell, with burial in the church cemetery.
