Beverly Jean (Virus) Randolph, “Bev” to all her family and friends, died Thursday, August 11, 2016. She was born on March 23, 1952, at the hospital in Fairbury, Nebraska to Ludwig and Elizabeth (Holz) Virus. She lived with her parents and four siblings in rural Hebron, NE, until the family moved into Hebron when Beverly was 11 years old. Beverly was baptized and confirmed in Grace Lutheran Church, in Hebron, NE.
Bev attended Hebron schools, graduating in 1970. She graduated from Southwest Community College in Fairbury and from University of Nebraska Kearney in 1974, with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in elementary education. She then attended the University of Nebraska, in Peru, NE, working on her master’s degree.
Beverly married Gaylen Lee Randolph on July 22, 1977 and they lived in Hebron until moving to Imperial, NE in 1989. They later moved to Colby, KS and then to rural Decatur County (Allison) where they made their home until Beverly’s death. Beverly taught elementary school in Ruskin, NE for 15 years and then taught in Imperial, NE. She was a substitute teacher and paraprofessional in the Colby Middle School until 2013, when she went to work for the Colby Housing Authority in Colby.
Beverly helped to educate many young people through the years and made many friends. She enjoyed gardening, collecting dolls and other “collectibles,” and baking and decorating cakes for her friends’ and family’s birthdays and weddings. Beverly could be found dressed in Nebraska red and was a cornhusker all her life.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and her step-daughter, Annette Jensby. She leaves to survive, her husband Gaylen, of Jennings, KS; her step-son, Allen Randolph, wife Grace and their daughters, Sydney and Emily, of Shamong, NJ; step- grandson, Joshua Jensby, of Wentzville, MO; sister, Marsha Vculek and husband Dale, of Steele City, NE; brothers, Roger Virus of Hebron, NE, Bruce Virus, of Steele City, NE and Randy Virus, of Belvidere, NE; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Cremation was chosen. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at Baalmann Mortuary Colby. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby.
