Betty Phillips

Betty Jane Phillips, 82, of Oakley, took leave on earth and went to her heavenly home on April 29, 2023. She was born to John and Rachel Vanmiddlesworth on October 6, 1940, in Parsons, KS. She accepted Christ as personal Savior on Easter Sunday, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Altamont, KS. Betty married Robert J. Phillips, in Altamont, KS, on December 22, 1957. Betty spent 22 years traveling all over the world in the military with her loving husband. The next 22 years were spent in Johnson, KS and Oakley, KS, working alongside her husband, doing ministries and teaching many, many children and families. She was a founding member of Sunrise Baptist Church in Oakley. The last 22 years were spent traveling and visiting family and friends. Sewing, crafting, playing games and going to garage sales were some of her favorite pastimes. Betty leaves her family with many wonderful memories and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings and one great grandson.

Betty is survived by her husband of almost 66 years, Robert Phillips; four children, Robert and Joy Phillips of Garden City, KS, Becky and Bill Jordan of Oakley, Kendall and Robyn Phillips of Newman, GA and Kim and Rick Jones of Colby, KS; 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Sunrise Baptist Church, Oakley. Internment will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2023, at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, in WaKeeney, KS.
