Longtime Oakley area resident Arlo R. Sporer died Sunday, December 2nd , 2012 in Colby, KS. Arlo was born August 30th, 1934 in Seneca, South Dakota, and was best known locally as the founder of Sporer Land Development Co. in 1961, retiring from active management in 2001.
His love of family complemented his enjoyment of hunting and fishing with his boys, nephew Bart, and beloved labs Missie and Star. He was inducted into the Trap Shooters Hall of Fame in 2005; always loving his RV and trips to Arizona every winter for 20 years to trap shoot with Laura.
His passion of the construction business started in 1960 with the purchase of his first backhoe. Beginning with soil conservation, evolving into land leveling, which grew into the heavy highway construction business of today. He leaves behind a legacy for the family business of which he was so proud.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Laura Hillery Sporer, whom he married on June 14th, 1953 in Russell Springs, KS. He is also survived by two daughters, Brenda Hubert and husband Greg, Tracee Sporer and husband Jim Davidson and two sons, Jay Sporer and wife Melanie, Troy Sporer and wife Lori all of Oakley. He was preceded in death by Mike and Rilla Sporer, his parents and a brother Gerald, and is survived by a brother Warren of Pierre, South Dakota. Other survivors include eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Grandchildren include Mark Hubert and wife Andrea, Oakley, Loralea Wood, husband Nick, Lawrence, Savanah Sporer, Denver, CO, Abbey Sporer, Kansas City, KS, Jaymi Sporer, Manhattan, Jantzen Sporer, Lincoln, NE, Jackie and Jarrett Sporer, Oakley. Great grandchildren Jovea Wood, Lawrence and Maddox & Mackenzie Hubert, Oakley, as well as many special nieces and nephews, whom all loved him dearly.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 4th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Oakley United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 5th at 1:00 p.m. at the Oakley United Methodist Church.
