Anna Sullivan

Anna Marie (Thompson) Sullivan, 91 of Colby, died Saturday, Feb 15, 2014 at Deseret Health and Rehab at Colby. She was born Oct 23, 1922 to William Ezam and Elizabeth (O’Brien) Thompson in Rawlins County. She was the second of three daughters. She graduated from the local country school and after her father died, her mother taught in various schools taking her daughters with her. Her mother moved to Atwood and became the Clerk of the Court of Rawlins County. Anna attained a teaching certificate after her graduation from Atwood High School and went to Fort Hays State University for her master’s degree. After receiving her degree she taught in the Brewster, Cimarron and Dodge City Schools, before returning to teach first grade in Atwood. She met and married Robert T. Sullivan and to this union a daughter, Elizabeth Ann, was born. In 1984 Anna started raising her grandson, Scott Shrout, after his mother died in a trailer house fire in Great Bend.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Bessie Thompson and Maxine Thompson; daughter, Elizabeth Ann and grandson Scott Shrout.

She is survived by her cousins, Rosalind Bundy, Brewster, Jim Steward, Thornton, CO, Paul (Patty & Stacy) Steward, Denver, CO, Anita (Gary) McCullough, Morrison, CO, Brian (Vickie) Newkirk, Colorado Springs, CO, Strait cousins, Washington State, Joan Bergh & family, Scottsdale, AZ, Glenda Harris, Yakima, WA, Roland (Waunita) Johnston, Kempner, TX; Tresa Shrout; great grandsons, Zandler Shrout and Landon Capp of Colby and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will start at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, Brewster.
