Anna Mcdougal

Anna Elizabeth McDougal, 95, formerly of Atwood, passed away September 8, 2014 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Homes in Hebron, NE. She was born March 12, 1919 on a farm near Stratton, NE, to Molly Mabel (Lough) and Charles David Durham.

Anna’s childhood days were spent on family farms in the counties of Rawlins and Norton, KS. She attended Pleasant Ridge District 54 Country School, walking 1 ¾ miles one way. After eighth grade graduation the family moved to the family farm to Norton, KS where she attended Norton High School. She enjoyed math and spelling and was the winner of several Spelling Bees. The family later moved to Atwood, KS where she continued to live until moving to the Blue Valley Lutheran Homes.

Anna was united in marriage to George Andrew McDougal, November4, 1945, by Rev. Maurice Rickard at the Methodist Church parsonage in Atwood. To this union one daughter, Cheryl Elena and two sons, LaVern and Gene were born. Anna and Andy made their home in Atwood.

Anna received Jesus Christ and followed his commandment in Water Baptism, September 29, 1940. She honored her faith and saw the Lord respond in touching her body and her needs many times. She was a member of Courts of Praise in Atwood.

Anna had a quiet, servants heart and a natural ability to serve others. She was a homemaker and used her gift of hospitality to serve many and was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was very proud of her family. She was a great hostess and welcomed many family and friends with a good home cooked meal. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crosswords, puzzles, bingo, quilting and was an avid bowler. She enjoyed her Church family, Lake Atwood and various community events. Anna had a great desire to live to be a hundred. She had a big loving heart and there will be a void where she used to be in this earthly life. We look forward to reuniting with her and our father and grandfather and others who have gone before us.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Waunita (Lyal) McCormack, Wilma (George) White-Nelson, Effie (George) Pesler; brothers Charles Jr (Joyce), Robert (Dorene) and Thomas (Phylis); niece Gordenia Kay McCormack and nephew, Lyal McCormack Jr.

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Jack) Diederich, McCook, NE, sons, LaVern, San Antonio, TX and Gene, Atwood, KS; eight grandchildren, Chad, Lynette, Mary, Stephanie, Brad, Heather, Mitchell and Michael; twenty great-grandchildren, Del’Tre, Teialana, Noah, Cecilia, Olivia, Asher, Anna Grace, Lydia, Leah, Isabella, Judah, Eden, JC, Lewie, Kayla, Derek, Jennifer, Kevin and Andrew and many more nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 2:00p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Courts of Praise, Atwood with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Anna McDougal Memorial fund in care of Cheryl Diederich, 1608 East I St, McCook, NE, 69001-3466. Online condolences: www.baalmannmortuary.com
