Alvin LeRoy Volk, 92, of Colby, died Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Prairie Senior Living Complex. He was born September 19, 1927, in Campbell, NE, to Albert and Louise (Niederklein) Volk. Alvin completed the 8th grade, in Franklin, NE and was drafted in to the United States Army in 1946, serving 1 year in Korea. Alvin’s first job was working for his uncle Julius, in Monument, KS. He then went to work in Colorado for the Works Progress Administration and worked on the railroad until they found out he was color blind. Alvin then began working at the City of Colby’s power plant and in 1957, started his career at the Post Office. He worked there for 31 years, before retiring on November 28, 1987. Alvin married Neva Lois Lyon on July 30, 1954, in Colby, and to this union four children were born. When Colby Community College began their GED Certificate program Alvin was among the first to sign up and he received his GED in 1969.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife Neva; son David Volk and daughter-in-law Janice Volk.
He is survived by his children, Leon (Mary) Volk, of Goodland, KS, Martin Volk, of El Dorado Hills, CA and Lora Volk, of Colby; daughter-in-law Denise Volk, of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren, Joshua (Lexi) Volk, of Garden City, KS, Kinsey Volk and Ryan Volk, of Goodland, KS, Kim Wright, of Scott City, KS and Wendi Richardson, of Colorado Springs, CO along with four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. A private graveside service will take place Beulah Cemetery, Colby followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Colby.
