Allan Taylor

February 2, 1950 — February 25, 2014

Laurence Allan Taylor, 64, of Colby, Kansas, passed away February 25, 2014 at his home. Allan was born in Colby on February 2, 1950 to parents William and Edith Taylor. He attended Colby Public Schools, Kansas State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree and in 1977 he graduated from Washburn Law School with his Juris Doctorate. From there Allan began his 37 year career as a practicing attorney in Oakley and Colby, serving as Thomas County Attorney from 1988 to 2004. On October 9, 1981, Allan was married to Sue Ellen Smith. In the summer of 1989 they were blessed with the addition of their loving son Laurence Austin and from then on, in the true Taylor family tradition, if you saw one you saw them all. Allan was an active member of the community, serving on the ADAC board, Max Pickerill Lecture Series Committee, and Northwest and Kansas Bar Associations. Throughout his life he enjoyed following all high school sporting events but Kansas State University sports were his number one love. He held season basketball and football tickets for many years and especially looked forward to attending bowl games. Al was also a lifelong bleeding heart liberal Democrat which many of his friends often times thought clouded his otherwise considerable intellect. In his leisure time, Allan was an avid reader. He could also be found on the golf course, tending his pool at home or enjoying his many genres of music. In he and Sue’s years together, their joint love of the Rocky Mountains gave them the opportunity to enjoy many trips together. Allan is survived by wife Sue, son Austin of Denver, Colorado, mother Edith of Colby, sister Lois (Leland) Francis of Wilson, Kansas, brothers Tom (Kristie) of Minden, Nebraska, Bill of Colby, Robert of Colby, Harry (Kris) of Salina, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father William, sister LeeAnn and what he considered his special in-laws Smitty and Helen Smith. He is also survived by brother-in-law Larry Smith, wife Jane and family. Allan was loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. Now we say goodbye to a dear and humble man and in the word he spoke many times…..EMAW!
