Alfred J Gerstner was born in St. Peter, Ks on October 30, 1925 to Jacob J and Marcianna Gerstner and passed away on January 21, 2019 in Colby, KS. He graduated from Collyer High School in 1943. In 1944 he was drafted into the army serving in World War II Pacific theatre. On April 20, 1948 he married Kathryn R. Hammett in Salina,KS. To this union eight children were born. Al and Kit started their married life in WaKeeney moving to Colby in 1954 where they spent most of their married life. Al was employed with rural electric companies for 42 years. He was a life long member of the Catholic Church and was instrumental in starting the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Colby. Al was also an avid golfer and helped rate Kansas courses. He enjoyed fishing, farming, hunting, gardening, caring for his yard, and the outdoors. Al never knew a stranger and was always kind to everyone making him known as a true gentleman. Quote from a grandson: “A great man that has done everything great to every person that he has ever graced!” He was proceeded in death by his wife, both parents, four brothers, and six sisters. He is survived by his eight children: Linda (Gerold) Stockman, Cindy (Dane) Cutting, Diane Gerstner, Ann (Cary) Siemsen, Chris (Diann) Gerstner, Rex (Michael Graham) Gerstner, Laura (Duke Schiefelbein) Mueller, Melissa (Robert) Haberkorn, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, three brothers, and one sister. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation: 2pm - 5pm, Thursday, January 24th at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel - Colby, KS Rosary at 7pm at Sacred Heart Church Burial will be at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery - WaKeeney,KS Memorials can be made to the Sacred Heart School.
