Alan Hartner

Alan Leon Hartner, 70, of Arvada, Colorado, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022, at his home, after battling cancer. He was a precious blonde baby born July 9, 1951, in Atwood, KS, to Clarence and Margaret (Riepl) Hartner, of Herndon, KS. Born one of seven children, Alan along with his siblings resided in Herndon and helped out with the family farm.

He attended St. Mary’s grade school and was an alter boy. At an early age Alan and his best friend Les Lippold ran around together causing trouble where ever it could be found. Les was always by his side even up until he said goodbye. In high school Alan played basketball and football and during the summer he played Slow Pitch Softball for Ludell. He worked at the Herndon Co-Op and Pooch’s Egg Factory. In 1969 Alan graduated Herndon High and did one year at Fort Hays State University, before moving to Denver in 1971, where him and some of his best friends lived and worked together. He began working in the construction field which lead him to his main trade and love for completing drywall. While in Colorado, Alan met and wed Charlene Humphrey in 1981. In March 1982, they welcomed their first daughter Misty Dawn. Then in 1986 they also had the joy of welcoming their firecracker daughter, Michelle Danielle. In 1988, Alan along with one of his lifelong friends and business partner Dan Bunker started Complete Drywall Systems which is still in business today.

Not only was he the most beloved father but also Pappy to his granddaughters Avery and Rysley. Alan was a hard-working, fun, loving, kindhearted man, who was a stranger to no-one, and a respected friend who was loved by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jim and Jack Hartner; sister-in-law Mary Hartner; brother-in-law Jim Jefferies; nephew Rodney Horinek and nieces, Mercedes Hartner and Denise Francis.

Left to celebrate his life are children, Misty Hartner, of Herndon, KS and Michelle (Ryan) Wilkinson, of Atwood, KS; two granddaughters, Avery Percival and Rysely Wilkinson, of Atwood, KS; sisters, Vivan Horinek, of Broomfield, CO, Christina (Kent) Wood, of Herndon, KS, Myrna (Les) Pettera, of Loveland, CO and Ardis Jefferies, of Overland Park, KS, and many friends, nieces and nephews.
