Henry Bremenkamp Jr.
Henry G. Bremenkamp, Jr., 76, of Colby, died Monday, February 12, 2018, at his home. He was born December 31, 1941, in Colby, KS, to Henry George and Grace Elizabeth (Renner) Bremenkamp. Henry graduated from Colby High School in 1960 and then attended the newly opened Colby Community College. There he met Gayle McGaw and they were married on April 24, 1965, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Colby. They were the college’s first sweet hearts to be married. As a dad, he was known in the neighborhood as King of Kick the Can and Master of the croquet course. Henry was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, where he was very active, serving on multiple councils and volunteering for many activities. He was also a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Henry was a farmer and had served as a board member for Farm Bureau and had received their Century Farm award. As a farmer, he was an inventor and artist, who could create anything needed to solve a problem or to entertain.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frank.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle, of the home; children, Phil, of Colby, Henry III “Hank” (Jana), of Shawnee, KS and Joyce (Eric) Russell, of Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Hunter Bremenkamp and Darien Russell; sisters, Dorothy Neargardner, Jean (Ronnie) Trybom, Marilyn (Jim) Finan, Carolyn Hengst, Betty Schieferecke and Charlotte Krimmel and numerous nieces and nephews, to whom he was the “favorite uncle”.
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
